so almost two weeks ago i move my spay/neuter operation about 1/2 mile away from the homestead and i take in this exceptionally friendly grey and white cat. so friendly that after i released her from the trap, she followed me to my car and made as if to leave with me. the following week, when i pick up another cat from her address, she runs into the cage and the woman who lives there asks if i know of anyone who wants her. evidently she's so friendly she trips them as they enter and exit their abode. i say i'll ask around and fend the cat off as i depart. the next day she runs over when i return with the next spayed cat. i hold her for a moment in the driver's seat, think better of it and release her.
and now. it's five days since i was at her home. in my car--no walking. today, i pull into the driveway and all of a sudden this cat shows up and starts snaking around my front porch. not shying away from any of the dogs and definitely fluffier than any of the grey and white ferals in my neck of the woods.
it can't be, i think. where did that cat come from, i ask the mister. and he says he literally just heard/saw her crash over a series of yards/fences to this one and from thence to the front. whereupon i walked over and just scooped her up. it's her. incredibly dirty, but purring and ever so hungry. so now she's on my lap, having devoured a can of food, availed herself of the litter, sniffed politely at the other cats and the dogs, and she seems quite content. we call her jane.
turns out, though, that jane is not quite a girl, so now she is known as a boy named jane, and his favorite pastime seems to be lying in our arms...
jane seemed to like you from the start. She just followed you around!
ReplyDeleteyou should keep him! he seems to be very close to! its really strange how quickly it all happened
ReplyDeletehe's kind of in my arms even now.
ReplyDeletethats so cute i want a cat like that....a boy named jane thats lol...name him peter...thats a good name bybybybyb
ReplyDeletekeep him! he looks like a gray version of this cat jack at the shelter where i volunteer. name him jack. jack is a sweet little kitty who likes to climb on your shoulders.
ReplyDeleteI think thats very cute how he is attached to you. My cat got attacked by a coyote today, and he still snuggles up to my mom. he sort of has a feeling of people being depressed
ReplyDeletebella--
ReplyDeletei can't name his jack cause i already have a jack in the house--my jack russel/beagle mix who's been there five years or so. i like Boy Named Jane as his name, though we shall only call him jane. there's this johnny cash song called A Boy Named Sue so i guess it's a tribute to the man in black.
how many cats do u have?
ReplyDeleteyou should name a cat wendy...thats a good name for a cat and a human and you shold be the two wendys that would be cute and funny
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool.... keep jack! I think its really cool that you save cats and dogs.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love the kitty... A boy by the name of Jane. How cute... :] I named my cat a name that would fit both genders... My sister's cat was at first thought to be a boy, but was actually a girl. Her name changed from Elvis to Amber. :]
ReplyDeletejane is so cute! are you going to keep him?
ReplyDeleteyeah, jane gets to stay. who in their right mind would turn away a cat who journeyed 1/2 mile through the mean city streets on a gamble that he would find a cozy berth?
ReplyDeleteI had a hamster like that once :] ha ha right? Anyway, we thought it was a boy so we named it max, but about six months later we took it to the vet and found out it was a girl. Max had just stuck, so we named her Maxine... :D
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't!
ReplyDelete(I meant that to be for Mrs. Samson's comment, Sophia! :D)
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you are keeping Jane. Today I went to the pet orphanage for a field trip and I saw a cat that looked just like him!
